AKKỌ is a Yoruba word meaning “the beginning”, “the first”, or “that which comes before”. The AKỌKỌ COLLECTION is conceived as both a starting point and a return — a contemporary reinterpretation of historic African forms, crafted through a global design lens.

Each piece emerges from architectural investigation and cultural research, distilling traditional structures, postures, and symbols into grounded, minimal forms. Rooted in the principles of Afrorevivalism, these works look back to look forward — reviving cultural memory to imagine new futures for African design. Every I-JŌKŌ piece is produced in small batches through a collaborative network of artisans in Nigeria and the UK. Our chairs are crafted from a wide but curated selection of West African and European hardwoods.
